Nidec to restructure R&D, leadership in strategic shift

Nidec Corporation has announced a comprehensive organizational restructuring and a series of personnel changes, all effective January 1, 2026. The restructuring focuses on its research and development (R&D) departments, including the division of the existing "Technology Strategy Planning Department" into two new entities: the "CTO Technology Planning Department" and the "Intellectual Property Department." Additionally, the "Nidec Product Technology R&D Center" will establish an "Urban Air Mobility Project" and an "Inverter System Development Project." "Development Department 1" will be placed under the Urban Air Mobility Project.

Further organizational adjustments include the formation of a "Business Strategy and Sales Department" within the "Business Strategy and Sales Division" of the "Automotive Motor & Electronic Control Organic Business Unit." The "Management Department" within the "Inverter Business Group" of the "Automotive Motor & Electronic Control Business Unit" will also be renamed the "Administration Department." These changes are designed to streamline operations and sharpen Nidec's strategic focus in key growth areas.

Concurrent with these structural shifts, Nidec will implement several leadership changes. Michio Kaida will continue as first senior vice president and chief technology officer, overseeing the newly formed CTO Technology Planning and Intellectual Property Departments. Takayuki Oe is appointed general manager of the new CTO Technology Planning Department, while Naoko Toyoshima will serve as general manager of the Intellectual Property Department. Kazuaki Okado becomes project manager for the Inverter System Development Project, and Tomoya Ueda will lead as general manager for Research Department 1 and Development Department 1 within the Urban Air Mobility Project.
