Mitsubishi Materials to transform Kyushu plant into recycling hub

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation's equity-method affiliate, UBE Mitsubishi Cement Corporation (MUCC), will cease cement production at the Kyushu Plant's Kanda District 2 by the end of March 2027. This decision, approved by MUCC's board of directors, aims to optimize asset efficiency, strengthen the cement business's competitiveness, and increase thermal energy substitution to achieve carbon neutrality. The facility will be repurposed as a recycling hub specializing in waste processing.

The restructuring is a response to declining domestic demand for cement and worsening profitability in export markets. MUCC intends to consolidate cement production at the Kanda District 1 facility, leveraging existing technology to maximize waste processing and achieve over 50% thermal energy substitution across its operations.

Mitsubishi Materials expects the impact of this decision on its consolidated results for the fiscal year ending March 2026 to be immaterial. The company's forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2026 remains unchanged, with projected consolidated net sales of 1,590,000 yen, operating profit of 15,000 yen, ordinary profit of 43,000 yen, and profit attributable to owners of parent of 20,000 yen.
