Sakata Seed reports data breach affecting 56,500 individuals

Sakata Seed Corporation announced a second report regarding a cyberattack that potentially exposed personal information of approximately 56,500 individuals. The breach, first disclosed on November 17, 2025, involved unauthorized access to the company's servers. Log analysis indicated the attack originated from a remote access server possibly gaining administrator privileges. The company is collaborating with external security specialists to investigate the full extent of the intrusion and implement preventative measures.

The compromised data includes personal information of roughly 44,000 wholesale customers and business partners (names, addresses, phone numbers, email), approximately 2,500 applicants for company calendars (names, addresses, phone numbers), about 5,000 research and technical recruitment records, and 5,000 current and former employee details. Credit card information, "My Number" (social security number), and sensitive personal information are explicitly excluded from the potentially leaked data.

Sakata Seed Corporation has initiated early containment measures, including blocking intrusion routes and strengthening security tools, and is implementing 24-hour monitoring and enhanced administrator privilege management. The company will individually contact affected parties in compliance with personal information protection laws and has established a dedicated inquiry desk to address concerns.
