Nagoya Railroad indefinitely postpones major redevelopment due to labor shortages

Nagoya Railroad Co. announced on December 12, 2025, an indefinite postponement of its Nagoya station area redevelopment and Meitetsu Nagoya station refurbishment plans. This decision follows the withdrawal of a bid on November 26, 2025, by an applicant for the demolition and new construction work. The applicant cited difficulties in forming a construction team due to labor shortages, making it impossible to meet the original schedule.

Consequently, the previously scheduled start dates for demolition (2026 fiscal year) and new construction (2027 fiscal year) are now "undecided." Similarly, the completion dates for the first phase (2033 fiscal year) and second phase (early 2040s) are also listed as "undecided." The company will immediately begin a re-evaluation of the current plan.

Despite the project delays, the planned closure of the Meitetsu Department Store Main Building on February 28, 2026, will proceed as scheduled. However, the future of facilities such as the Meitetsu Bus Center, Meitetsu Grand Hotel, and Sky Parking remains "undecided." The impact on consolidated earnings is currently under review.
