Hobonichi announces new leadership, US expansion, and broader business scope

Hobonichi Co. Ltd. announced a significant leadership transition, with founder Shigesato Itoi stepping down as representative director, president, chief executive officer, and chief creative officer to become representative director and chairman. Ayako Koizumi, currently vice president, chief operating officer, and head of product business, will assume the roles of representative director and president, chief operating officer, effective November 29, 2025. This change aims to strengthen the management structure for sustainable growth.

In parallel, Hobonichi is establishing a new US subsidiary, Hobonichi Inc., in November 2025. This move supports the "Hobonichi Techo" brand's expansion in North America, where sales are approaching 2 billion yen, representing over one-third of global Hobonichi Techo sales. Shigesato Itoi will also serve as chief executive officer of Hobonichi Inc.

Furthermore, the company is proposing amendments to its Articles of Incorporation to diversify and clarify its business objectives. New additions include real estate, hospitality, tourism, public bathhouse operations, and human resources support, reflecting the company’s future growth strategy. Nagata Yasuhiro will also be appointed as director, and Ito Akiko as a standing outside auditor, effective November 29, 2025.
