Paltac, Arata, Planet form JV for product information management

Paltac Corporation, Arata Corporation, and Planet, Inc. have announced the joint establishment of Product Registry Services, Inc., a new company dedicated to centralizing product information management within the general consumer goods sector. This initiative, formalized in an October 20, 2025 announcement, seeks to unify product master data for cosmetics and daily necessities, thereby improving efficiency in commercial and logistics operations across manufacturing, distribution, and retail. The new entity will be capitalized at JPY 100 million, with Planet holding 40%, and Arata and Paltac each holding 30%. Toshio Matsumoto (Planet) is slated as the representative director.

The new company, set to be established in November 2025 with services launching in April 2026, will coordinate with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to standardize product information. Its operations will include collecting, storing, and maintaining product information, providing this data and related consulting, and developing the necessary infrastructure. The goal is to address industry challenges such as fragmented data, manual processing, and inconsistent JAN code usage.

This strategic collaboration underscores a commitment to implementing the "Product Information Platform Initiative" which outlines five principles for product information management. The three founding companies will manage the new venture for approximately three years to ensure stability before re-evaluating investment and corporate governance structures.
