Aeon reports strong September sales, driven by retail innovation

Aeon Co., Ltd. reported its September 2025 monthly operating performance, highlighting sustained growth across several key segments. Ion Retail Co., Ltd. achieved its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth in existing store sales, driven by successful initiatives like the "Ion Oktoberfest" and enhanced "treat menus" for the Respect for the Aged Day holiday. Food existing store sales marked their 37th consecutive month of year-over-year increase, with groceries, daily essentials, marine products, and the Cafe Lante specialty food store performing well. Health & Beauty Care also saw its seventh consecutive month of growth, supported by heat countermeasures, immune-boosting products, and steady pharmacy demand.

The supermarket segment continued its upward trajectory, with MaxValu Tokai Co., Ltd. launching a regional collaboration product and Fuji Co., Ltd. expanding WAON POINT services to 96 stores to enhance customer convenience. Overall, the GMS segment's existing store sales rose by 1.8% year-over-year in September, with customer numbers remaining steady. The Supermarket (SM) Business saw existing store sales climb by 9.5% year-over-year.

Amidst persistent inflation, Aeon has actively managed pricing, lowering prices on 75 TopValu items in April and announcing further reductions on 60 food and daily essential items effective October 1. The company also implemented climate change countermeasures, focusing on seasonal product deployment during the mid-September transition period, while enhancing customer engagement through local produce fairs and sports team support sales.
