Nippon Ceramic data breach expands, affects 35,650 individuals and 950 companies

Nippon Ceramic Co., Ltd. announced on September 26, 2025, that ongoing investigations into an unauthorized access incident, first reported on June 27, 2025, have confirmed a broader data leakage. Initially, 2,850 individuals and 900 business partners were confirmed affected. The latest update reveals that information for approximately 35,650 individuals and 950 companies may have been compromised.

The newly identified leaked personal information includes names, dates of birth, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, basic-pension numbers, insurer numbers, passport numbers, driver's license numbers, and individual numbers for employees and former employees. For shareholders (including former shareholders), names, addresses, shareholder numbers, telephone numbers, and shareholdings from 2015 to 2024 may have been leaked. Additionally, applicant data, including names, dates of birth, and contact information, is also potentially compromised.

The company detected a data server failure on April 7, 2025, confirming unauthorized access occurred on April 5, 2025. Nippon Ceramic has suspended the affected server and system, implementing isolated networks to ensure production continuity. They are individually notifying affected parties and continue to investigate in cooperation with external experts and police, while assessing the impact on earnings forecasts.
