Aeon reports strong August sales amid metropolitan business integration talks

Aeon Co., Ltd. reported positive operating performance for August 2025, with several segments showing year-on-year growth. AEON Retail Co., Ltd.'s General Merchandise Store (GMS) business recorded its sixth consecutive month of same-store sales growth, driven by strong performance in food, health & beauty care, and apparel. The supermarket business maintained sales comparable to the previous year, with initiatives like expanding the TOPVALU private brand and price promotions offsetting a high benchmark from disaster preparedness product demand last year.

The company also announced a basic agreement on August 4 for business integration discussions in the Tokyo metropolitan and Kansai areas, involving U.S.M.H, Daiei, KOHYO, Maxvalu Kanto, and AEON MARKET. This move aims to achieve the No. 1 market share in these regions. In the services and specialty store business, COX Co., Ltd. saw same-store sales increase by 107.6% year-on-year, marking two consecutive months of growth, attributed to strong sales of summer apparel made from cooling fabrics amid record heat.
