Nippon Steel, U.S. Steel resolve all disputes with USW and Cleveland-Cliffs

Nippon Steel Corporation, its subsidiary Nippon Steel North America, Inc. (NSNA), United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel), and the United Steelworkers (USW) have concluded all litigation and disputes concerning their partnership, formed on June 18, 2025.

This resolution includes the withdrawal of a lawsuit filed by Nippon Steel, NSNA, and U.S. Steel against USW president David McCall in a Pennsylvania federal court, and the withdrawal of unfair labor practice complaints filed by the USW against U.S. Steel with the National Labor Relations Board. No monetary consideration was exchanged as part of this settlement. The parties will continue to focus on their steelmaking business and collective bargaining.

Furthermore, Nippon Steel, NSNA, U.S. Steel, and Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. have also concluded litigation related to the Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel partnership. Nippon Steel, NSNA, and U.S. Steel withdrew their lawsuit against Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and its chief executive, Lourenco Goncalves, which had been filed in a Pennsylvania federal court.
