Genus JV secures $1.6 bn western renewables link contract

Genus, in a 25% stake within the ACCIONA Genus JV (AGJV), has been awarded a contract by AusNet to construct the Western Renewables Link (WRL) Project in Victoria. This substantial contract for the construction of the WRL is valued at approximately AUD$1.6 billion, marking a strategic expansion for Genus into the Victorian renewables market. The contract is contingent upon project approvals and satisfaction of conditions precedent.

The Western Renewables Link project, spanning approximately 190 kilometres, involves delivering a new 500 kV double-circuit transmission line from Bulgana to the Sydenham terminal station. This infrastructure is designed to unlock over 3,000 MW of new generation, capable of powering up to one million Victorian homes, and is expected to generate significant economic and community benefits, including job creation.

The AGJV, with ACCIONA holding 75%, will undertake all project construction activities. This includes detailed engineering, design, material and equipment supply, civil and electrical construction, and the development of a new terminal station near Bulgana. This award reinforces Genus' commitment to Australia's energy transition and its capacity to deliver large-scale, complex energy infrastructure.
