NexGen Energy progresses Rook I Project with federal hearings

NexGen Energy Ltd. announced its participation in the first of two Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) hearings for final federal approval of its 100%-owned Rook I Project. This milestone follows over twelve years of environmental studies and stakeholder engagement, positioning the project for construction upon a positive CNSC decision.

The formal regulatory approval process began in 2019 with the Project Description submission. Key milestones include the Draft Environmental Impact Statement in 2022, CNSC staff deeming the licence application sufficient in September 2023, Provincial Environmental Assessment approval in November 2023, and CNSC staff acceptance of the Final Environmental Impact Statement in January 2025.

NexGen highlights the Rook I Project as a future low-cost producing uranium mine, designed with elite environmental and social governance standards. The company states that the project will deliver generational economic, environmental, and social benefits for Saskatchewan, Canada, and globally.
