Austal defence Australia secures landing craft medium design authority role

Austal Limited announced that its subsidiary, Austal Defence Australia, has been appointed as the design authority for the Landing Craft Medium (LCM) project. This marks the first project-specific Tasking Statement awarded under the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) and is valued at approximately A$15 million.

The Landing Craft Medium Design Authority Tasking Statement empowers Austal Defence Australia to control, mature, and advance the LCM design, collaborating with industry partners to finalize the vessel design, which began under interim arrangements in 2024. This initial phase focuses on design and engineering activities.

Following the successful finalization of contractual terms, Austal Defence Australia anticipates a further LCM Design & Build Tasking Statement to be awarded in Q4 CY2025. This subsequent phase will involve the continued maturation of the design, followed by the construction and delivery of the LCM vessels. The announcement was approved by Austal Limited's chief executive officer, Paddy Gregg.
