Star Sydney casino licence suspension extended as remediation continues

The Star Entertainment Group Limited (ASX: SGR) announced on September 24, 2025, that the NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) has maintained the suspension of The Star Sydney casino licence. This decision follows submissions from The Star and a report from the manager regarding the company's suitability to hold a casino licence.

As a result, the manager's appointment for The Star Sydney casino, Nicholas Weeks, has been extended until March 31, 2026, unless terminated earlier by the NICC. This extension was approved by the minister through an amendment to the Casino Control Regulation 2019. The NICC determined that the licence suspension should remain in effect, citing ongoing work required by The Star to meet its Remediation Plan.

Group chief executive and managing director, Steve McCann, reiterated The Star's commitment to delivering on its Remediation Plan and maintaining a transparent relationship with regulators to demonstrate its suitability as a licence holder. The NICC initially appointed Mr. Weeks on October 17, 2022, after determining The Star was no longer suitable to hold its casino licence.
