Woolworths to review underpayment judgment after Federal Court decision

Woolworths Group acknowledged a Federal Court judgment on September 5, 2025, concerning underpayments to award-covered salaried team members in its Supermarkets and Metro stores. The judgment stems from 2021 proceedings by the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) and a 2019 class action.

In 2019, Woolworths Group self-reported that it had not met requirements for its salaried, award-covered team members. The company initiated a voluntary program, repaying over A$330 million to thousands of affected team members, including interest and superannuation, covering the period from 2013 to 2019.

Woolworths Group stated it would carefully review the "complex and extensive" judgment. Any further remediation payments will require detailed review and analysis across potentially thousands of affected team members. Chief executive Amanda Bardwell reaffirmed the company's commitment to resolving these issues and ensuring correct team member payments.
