China Merchants Port sees mixed September performance

China Merchants Port Group reported a total container throughput of 1,761.6 thousand TEU in September 2025, a 7.9% year-on-year increase. Year-to-date, container volume reached 15,460.5 thousand TEU, up 5.3%. Domestic ports contributed 1,394.4 thousand TEU, an 8.1% rise, with overseas ports showing a 12.2% increase to 330.8 thousand TEU. However, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan ports saw a significant decline of 23.4% to 36.4 thousand TEU.

For general cargo, the company handled 10,652.9 thousand tons in September 2025, up 5.7% from the previous year. The year-to-date total for general cargo stood at 94,825.0 thousand tons, a 1.2% increase. Domestic ports processed 10,571.4 thousand tons, growing by 5.7%, while overseas ports handled 81.5 thousand tons, up 9.9%.

Notably, within domestic container operations, the Yangtze River Delta region experienced a robust 13.4% increase, reaching 946.0 thousand TEU in September. Conversely, the Pearl River Delta saw a 15.5% decrease in container volume, dropping to 129.2 thousand TEU. Similarly, domestic general cargo in the Yangtze River Delta increased by 16.2% to 6,612.0 thousand tons, while the Pearl River Delta saw a 13.7% decline to 315.7 thousand tons.
