Goldwind plans $2.6bn green energy hub in Inner Mongolia

Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology announced on September 10, 2025, that its board approved a resolution to sign an investment and development agreement with the Bayannur City People's Government. This agreement focuses on a 3GW wind-powered hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol integrated project in Urad Front Banner, Inner Mongolia, with a total investment of approximately RMB 18.92 bn. The project aims to develop a demonstration site for wind-hydrogen-ammonia-methanol integration, aligning with national "dual carbon" goals.

The project, which will be carried out by Goldwind's wholly-owned subsidiary, Urad Front Banner Goldwind Runhang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., involves constructing 3GW of wind power capacity. Over 80% of the electricity generated will be used for water electrolysis to produce green hydrogen, which will then be coupled with biomass gasification to produce 600,000 tons per year of green methanol and 400,000 tons per year of green ammonia. This initiative is expected to enhance Goldwind's comprehensive solutions capability in wind power and green chemical industries.

The investment will be funded through a combination of Goldwind's own capital and bank loans. The company noted that the project is subject to government approvals and processes, and its financial impact on future operating results will depend on the project's advancement. Goldwind highlighted potential risks, including the possibility of not obtaining development rights and changes in policy or implementation conditions.
