Humon smelting fined $2.7m over fatal accident, executives also penalized

Shandong Humon Smelting Co., Ltd. announced that it and several individuals received administrative penalty decisions from the Yantai Muping District Emergency Management Bureau on September 5, 2025. The penalties stem from a fatal scalding accident on August 3, 2024, at the company's smelting plant, which resulted in 3 deaths, 2 serious injuries, 12 minor injuries, and direct economic losses of 8.147 million yuan. The investigation found the accident to be a major production safety responsibility incident due to inadequate process control, risk identification, faulty equipment, and improper handling of water jacket leakage, including concealment and misrepresentation.

The company was fined 2,710,000 yuan. Additionally, ten individuals received fines: former chairman Zhang Fan, president Qu Shengli, executive vice president Ji Xubo, party committee deputy secretary Kong Tao, technical development director Zhang Junfeng, board secretary Xia Xiaobo, executive vice general engineer Dong Zhunqin, assistant president Qin Liangqi, human resources department manager Wang Wenhua, and safety management department deputy manager Tang Yan.

The company stated it has completed rectification, reflected deeply, and will continue to improve safety management, enhance safety awareness, and increase safety production investment. Shandong Humon Smelting confirmed that its production and operations are currently normal and the penalties will not significantly impact its financial status, nor do they trigger mandatory delisting criteria.
