China Nuclear Power boosts capacity with strategic upgrade pact

China National Nuclear Power (CNNP) announced a strategic cooperation agreement with the China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute (NPRI) to boost the power output of its operational nuclear power units. This initiative, termed the "Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Nuclear Power Plant Power Upgrade," is designed to leverage both parties' expertise, enhance CNNP's core competitiveness, and efficiently increase power generation while ensuring nuclear safety. The agreement was approved by CNNP's board of directors on December 22, 2025.

The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including researching power upgrade technical routes, improving reactor thermal power control, implementing minor power upgrades, systematically expanding nuclear power unit capacity, and specifically enhancing the generating capabilities of CNP650 model units. This framework agreement is valid for five years.

Further, CNNP also announced the resignation of Mr. Yu Kaizhi from his position as deputy general manager, effective December 17, 2025. His departure is not expected to impact the company's operational activities. Additionally, the board approved other proposals, including the 2026 annual major operational risk forecast and the 2024-2025 remuneration plan for senior management.
