China Shenhua unit 3 begins commercial operation, boosting Guangxi energy supply

China Shenhua Energy Company Limited announced that Unit 3 of the Beihai Phase II Expansion Project, a facility in which the company holds a 52% stake through its subsidiary Guoneng Guangtou Beihai Power Generation Co., Ltd., has successfully completed its 168-hour trial operation. Following this achievement, the unit has transitioned to commercial operation. The Beihai Phase II project, located in Beihai City, Guangxi, is a key initiative under the region's "14th Five-Year Plan" for energy development.

The project involves the construction of two 1,000 MW ultra-supercritical once-through reheated coal-fired power generating units. Unit 3 incorporates advanced technologies for ultra-clean coal-fired power generation, deep peak shaving, and flexible operation, with its peak shaving depth reaching a domestically leading level. It is designed to achieve a power supply coal consumption of 266.86 g/kWh and implement zero discharge of wastewater and solid waste, along with ultra-low emissions of atmospheric pollutants.

Construction of Unit 4 of Beihai Phase II is progressing steadily, with its planned commissioning scheduled for December 2025. Upon the full operation of both units, the Beihai Phase II project is expected to further optimize the regional power structure, enhance grid safety and stability, and effectively meet the medium and long-term load growth demands of the region. This will provide crucial support for the development of China's Western Land-Sea New Corridor and regional socio-economic growth.
