China Merchants Energy Shipping expands fleet with new heavy lift vessel

On November 21, 2025, China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. (CMES) announced the delivery of the "PACIFIC SERENITY" (Ming Jian) vessel. This 62,000 DWT ultra-handy heavy lift multi-purpose ship was received by a wholly-owned subsidiary in Yangzhou Yizheng. It is the third of four such vessels ordered by CMES in 2023. These new vessels are designed as energy-efficient, environmentally friendly ships, each equipped with three 150-ton single cranes.

The "Ming Jian" series significantly strengthens CMES's multi-purpose vessel fleet, offering enhanced cargo adaptability and a wider range of freight services. This expansion is crucial in a global dry bulk market characterized by aging fleets and suboptimal capacity structures. The new additions are expected to bolster CMES's core competitiveness and sustained profitability within the dry bulk shipping sector by improving its carrying capacity and market position in niche segments.

As of the announcement date, CMES's dry bulk shipping division operates 105 vessels (excluding chartered-in ships). This fleet comprises 37 VLOCs, 16 Capesize bulk carriers, 8 Panamax bulk carriers, 37 handy-size bulk carriers, and 7 heavy lift multi-purpose vessels. Additionally, CMES has 13 vessels on order, with one identical to the "Ming Jian" vessel slated for delivery in the second half of 2026.
