China Merchants Energy Shipping expands fleet with second new Kamsarmax vessel

On October 28, 2025, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) received the "Mingxiao," an 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax dry bulk vessel. This is the second vessel of its type delivered from an order of four new energy-efficient Kamsarmax dry bulkers placed in 2023, following the "Mingfu" delivered on September 25. The new vessel features advanced energy-saving designs, including a shaft generator, offering significantly improved energy efficiency and environmental performance compared to CMES's existing 76,000 DWT Panamax bulkers.

The "Mingxiao" series is designed for flexible multi-cargo transport, with a strong focus on grain logistics. Its integration into the fleet will expand CMES's Panamax-type fleet, boost its capacity for grain and other key cargo types, and enhance customer service capabilities. This expansion is particularly timely given the increasing age of the global dry bulk fleet.

As of this announcement, CMES’s dry bulk fleet comprises 104 owned and operated vessels, including 37 VLOCs, 16 Capesize bulkers, 8 Kamsarmax/Panamax bulkers, 37 Handysize bulkers, and 6 heavy-lift multi-purpose vessels. The company also has 14 vessels on order, with two more Kamsarmax vessels, identical to the "Mingxiao," slated for delivery in the first half of 2026.
