China Shenhua reports mixed September operating results

China Shenhua Energy reported a 0.7% increase in commercial coal production for September 2025, reaching 27.6m tonnes, while cumulative production for the first nine months saw a 0.4% decline to 250.9m tonnes compared to the previous year. Coal sales, however, fell 1.6% in September to 36.3m tonnes and 8.4% cumulatively to 316.5m tonnes.

In transportation, the company's proprietary railway transport turnover surged by 13.4% in September to 27.0bn tonne-kilometers, largely due to increased coal sources. Huanghua Port and Tianjin Coal Terminal also saw an increase in vessel loading volumes, up 13.6% and 15.2% respectively. Conversely, shipping freight volume and turnover decreased by 15.8% and 31.2% in September, attributed to business structure adjustments and changes in shipping routes.

Power generation and sales both declined by over 16% in September, primarily due to weather impacts and increased new energy output. In the chemical segment, both polyethylene and polypropylene sales showed growth in the first nine months of 2025, increasing by 15.7% and 12.1% respectively, mainly due to a lower base from planned maintenance of coal-to-olefin production equipment in the prior year.
