China National Nuclear Power reports strong Q3 2025 generation growth

China National Nuclear Power (CNNP) reported total commercial electricity generation of 184.364 bn kWh for the first three quarters of 2025, marking a 14.95% increase year-on-year. Net electricity supplied to the grid also rose by 15.20% to 174.095 bn kWh.

Nuclear power contributed 151.008 bn kWh to the total generation, an 11.33% increase from the previous year. Net online generation grew by 11.44% to 141.283 bn kWh, and the average utilization hours for nuclear units were approximately 6,046 hours. Despite some declines in generation from Qinshan, Jiangsu, and Sanmen due to increased major overhauls, Hainan nuclear power saw a 7.02% increase, and Fuqing nuclear power surged by 25.45%.

New energy sources demonstrated robust growth, with generation increasing by 34.77% to 33.356 bn kWh, and net online generation up by 34.82% to 32.812 bn kWh. Wind power generation increased by 29.28% to 14.362 bn kWh, while solar PV generation soared by 39.25% to 18.995 bn kWh. This expansion was primarily attributed to an increase in the operational scale of new energy installed capacity.
