China Southern Airlines reports robust August 2025 operating growth

China Southern Airlines announced its key operating data for August 2025, revealing a 6.37% year-on-year increase in passenger capacity (measured by available seat kilometers). Domestic, regional, and international capacities rose by 4.89%, 3.43%, and 11.35% respectively. Passenger traffic (measured by revenue passenger kilometers) concurrently grew by 5.97% year-on-year, with domestic, regional, and international segments increasing by 4.93%, 6.04%, and 9.40%. The overall passenger load factor was 86.99%, a slight decrease of 0.32 percentage points year-on-year, despite domestic and regional load factors seeing increases.

Cargo operations also performed strongly in August 2025, with freight capacity (measured by available freight tonne kilometers) up by 0.90% year-on-year. Freight traffic (measured by revenue freight tonne kilometers) saw a substantial 5.48% year-on-year increase. The freight load factor improved by 2.21 percentage points, reaching 50.83%.

As of the end of August 2025, the group operated a total of 952 transport aircraft. During the month, the group introduced seven new aircraft while retiring five, reflecting ongoing fleet adjustments. No new major routes were added in August 2025.
