China Shenhua's April coal sales decline slightly

China Shenhua Energy (SSE:601088) announced its key operating data for April 2025, revealing a 4% year-over-year decrease in coal sales volume, reaching 35.6 million tonnes. Coal production saw a marginal dip of 3.9%, totaling 27.3 million tonnes. The company's transportation segment showed mixed results, with railway freight turnover increasing by 2.3% to 26.9 billion tonne-kilometers, while shipping volume decreased by 11.4% to 9.3 million tonnes due to business restructuring. Electricity generation and sales experienced declines of 9.9% and 9.5% respectively. In contrast, the coal chemical sector witnessed substantial growth, with polyethylene sales jumping 97.6% to 32.8 thousand tonnes and polypropylene sales surging 64.3% to 32.2 thousand tonnes, attributed to a lower base in the previous year due to equipment maintenance.
