China Shenhua's March coal sales dip, production steady

China Shenhua Energy (SSE:601088) announced its key operating data for March 2025, revealing a 13.5% year-on-year decrease in coal sales, totaling 34.6 million tonnes compared to 40.0 million tonnes in March 2024. Coal production remained relatively stable, increasing 1.7% to 29.4 million tonnes. Railway transportation volume decreased by 17.9% year on year. The company attributed the decline in sales and transportation volumes to weakened demand from downstream coal users. Total power generation declined by 5.8% to 17.33 billion kWh, and total electricity sales declined by 5.7% to 16.31 billion kWh. The company notes that the data includes the operations of the recently acquired Hangjin Energy.
