Air China reports January 2025 traffic growth, board changes loom

Air China (SSE: 601111) reported a significant increase in passenger traffic for January 2025, with passenger turnover rising 12.1% year-over-year. Capacity also grew, with a 10.0% increase in passenger capacity and a 13.3% increase in freight capacity. International routes saw substantial gains, with passenger capacity up 31.8% and passenger turnover up 37.9%. The airline also noted the introduction of four new B737 series aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 934. This positive performance coincides with an upcoming extraordinary general meeting where shareholders will vote on the election of new board members. The proposed board includes both executive and non-executive directors, as well as independent directors. Shareholders will also vote on the compensation of board members, with non-executive directors not receiving compensation and independent directors compensated based on government policies.
