Elkem confirms second fatality after French silicones site explosion

Elkem ASA announced a second fatality following an explosion on December 22, 2025, at its Saint-Fons, France, silicones site. This update follows a previous stock exchange release reporting the initial death. Elkem chief executive Helge Aasen expressed profound condolences to the families and confirmed the company's commitment to supporting affected employees.

Two employees remain hospitalized after the accident. Elkem has initiated an internal investigation, working with local French authorities who are also conducting external investigations. Operations at both the North and South sites in Saint-Fons were temporarily shut down on December 22, 2025.
