Ocean GeoLoop and NorFraKalk partner for industrial carbon capture in Mid-Norway

Ocean GeoLoop AS and NorFraKalk are progressing towards full-scale carbon capture with an agreement to realize a 10,000 tonnes per annum industrial CO2 capture plant in Mid-Norway. The project includes engineering, construction, operation, liquefaction, and storage, aiming for a Q1 2026 start-up and full operation by the second half of 2027. This initiative marks the first carbon capture plant in Mid-Norway and is seeking financial support from Enova.

The project highlights Ocean GeoLoop's modular carbon capture solution, noted for its competitive CAPEX, OPEX, and energy efficiency. NorFraKalk’s chief executive, Glenn Håkon Bekkeli, stated the pilot plant aims to demonstrate a chemical-free, energy-efficient capture process that also removes local emissions, potentially leading to full-scale decarbonization. The companies are also seeking partners to establish a coordinated CCS value chain.

NorFraKalk, jointly owned by Franzefoss Minerals AS and Nordkalk Oy Ab, produces quicklime and limestone products. This collaboration represents a significant step towards climate-neutral production, aligning with EU Fit for 55 climate goals for the lime and cement industry.
