TGS expands offshore Brazil seismic survey portfolio in Pelotas Basin

TGS announced Pelotas Norte Phase I, a new multi-client 3D survey in the Pelotas Basin, offshore southern Brazil, commencing later in Q4 2025. This initial phase will cover approximately 14,800 square kilometers across 21 exploration blocks, primarily in un-held acreage targeted for upcoming bid rounds. The project, supported by industry funding, is scheduled to run into Q3 2026. It will utilize a Ramform Titan-class vessel equipped with TGS GeoStreamer® technology for high-resolution 3D seismic data.

The Pelotas Basin is attracting significant industry interest due to its geological similarities to the hydrocarbon-rich conjugate margin of West Africa. This new survey follows two large multi-client surveys announced earlier in Q3, bringing the total number of Ramform Titan-class vessels working offshore Brazil for TGS to three for the remainder of 2025 and well into 2026.

According to TGS chief executive Kristian Johansen, the survey will expand seismic coverage, leveraging advanced acquisition capabilities and imaging expertise to help clients better understand the basin's geological structures and derisk future exploration activities. This initiative supports accelerating exploration activity and increased commitment from major oil companies in the region.
