Bergen Carbon Solutions progresses toward industrial carbon material production

Bergen Carbon Solutions (BCS) announced substantial technological progress in Q3 2025, achieving consistent and reproducible carbon nanotube (CNT) quality through systematic parameter control. This establishes a stable process platform, enabling larger test volumes for internal and external validation in Li-S and LFP battery chemistries. The company's adjusted net loss for the quarter was NOK 9.1 million, an improvement from NOK 16.4 million in Q3 2024, with a 52% reduction in year-to-date cash burn.

BCS received a significant NOK 30 million grant from Innovation Norway, strengthening its development efforts and extending its financial runway. This funding, part of a NOK 67 million total project budget, will support expanding the carbon powder portfolio to include highly conductive carbon flakes, crucial for lighter batteries, longer lifespans, and higher energy density. The company is also strengthening its organization with a new international advisory board and additional technical competence.

Global trends, including China's export restrictions and new EU battery support programs like the €1.8 billion EU Battery Booster Package, underscore the growing importance of local, sustainable carbon material production. BCS aims to meet these demands by developing unique carbon materials with distinct properties, aligning with Europe's strategic push for alternative technologies and reducing reliance on fossil-based solutions.
