NEXT Biometrics boosts India's digital ID market with Aadhaar certification

NEXT Biometrics has supported Evolute in achieving Aadhaar L1 Certification, enabling Evolute's POS devices to integrate with India's vast biometric identification system. This certification is crucial for accessing India's digital identity and financial inclusion market, which NEXT anticipates will experience rapid growth, driven by the replacement of approximately 4.5 million L0 certified devices with L1 certified ones. This development marks a significant stage in a multi-year commercial partnership, valued at NOK 14 – 28 million, for NEXT’s FAP 20 sensors, which began in 2023.

The L1 certification ensures high levels of accuracy, performance, and security for user identification and authentication within the Aadhaar system. NEXT's Active Thermal FAP 20 ‘Basalt’ fingerprint sensor played a key role, utilizing heat from the finger and 3D imaging for superior liveness detection against spoofing attacks. This makes NEXT the only fingerprint sensor provider to have supported two Original Equipment Manufacturers through the L1 Certification process with its Active Thermal FAP 20 sensor.

NEXT Biometrics' Active Thermal technology is certified by various entities including Aadhaar and FBI-PIV, and has been implemented in numerous countries globally. The company, which has shipped over 10 million sensors in 25 years, continues to see growing demand for its secure and convenient biometric authentication solutions in critical markets like India.
