Norwegian expands Boeing 737 MAX order to 80 aircraft

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA has exercised its option to purchase 30 additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, bringing its total firm order with Boeing to 80 aircraft. This expansion follows an initial agreement in May 2022 for 50 aircraft, which included the now-exercised option. The final aircraft from this updated order are scheduled for delivery in 2031.

The expanded order is critical to Norwegian's growth ambitions and fleet renewal strategy, with an updated delivery schedule designed to align with lease expiries and market developments. The new 737 MAX 8 aircraft are expected to provide a more comfortable passenger experience with quieter cabins and lower emissions, while also strengthening the airline's fleet strategy by securing lower operating costs due to improved fuel efficiency.

Chief executive Geir Karlsen stated the order was on attractive terms, supporting planned growth and sustainability targets. He emphasized the flexibility maintained through adjusted delivery profiles and reinforced the commitment to operating one of Europe's most modern and fuel-efficient fleets.
