TGS and Viridien launch major seismic survey offshore Brazil
TGS, in partnership with Viridien, announced the commencement of the Megabar Extension Phase I multi-client 3D seismic survey in the Barreirinhas Basin offshore Northern Brazil. This 5,300 sq km project expands on Viridien's existing Megabar coverage and targets an area with proven geological potential but no prior 3D data. The basin shares characteristics with successful discoveries in adjacent Guyana and Suriname.
TGS will acquire the data using the Ramform Tethys vessel and its GeoStreamer® technology. Acquisition is set to begin in early September 2025 and conclude by late November 2025. Viridien's Subsurface Imaging experts will then process the data.
Initial imaging products are anticipated by Q3 2026, with final data expected in Q1 2027. Both chief executive Kristian Johansen of TGS and chief executive Sophie Zurquiyah of Viridien emphasized the project's strategic importance for unlocking new opportunities. The project is supported by industry funding.
