Elkem wins EU emissions allowance complaint, gets additional credits

Elkem won a complaint over unequal treatment under the EU Emissions Trading System for 2021-2025. The Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment found that Norwegian silicon, ferrosilicon, and manganese producers received fewer free allowances than EU counterparts.

Elkem's plants received approximately 72% of historical emissions as free allowances, compared to 94% for EU competitors. The company expects to receive an additional 1.3 million free emission allowances following a re-evaluation.
