Genesis Energy greenlights Edgecumbe solar farm, boosting renewable capacity

Genesis Energy announced its Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Edgecumbe Solar Farm on November 24, 2025. This project will add 136 MWp of solar capacity, generating approximately 238 GWh annually, enough to power around 29,800 homes. Construction is slated to begin shortly, with the first generation expected in the second half of FY27. The estimated project cost is approximately NZ$236 million.

Key contracts have been secured, with Horizon Networks handling the grid connection design and construction, and METLEN managing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the solar farm. The project will initially be funded on Genesis' balance sheet, with capital recycling opportunities to be explored post-commissioning.

This investment aligns with Genesis' capital management strategy of investing directly from its balance sheet, leveraging third-party capital through joint ventures, and utilizing PPAs. The Edgecumbe Solar Farm is a significant step towards Genesis' goal of building up to 500MWp of solar generation and supporting New Zealand's low-carbon transition.
