BurgerFuel reports mixed FY25 results amid economic headwinds

BurgerFuel Group Limited reported its FY25 results, revealing a 7.59% decrease in unaudited total system sales across all brands and regions to $108.2m. Group revenue also declined by 8.4% to $24.9m, with net profit after tax at $1.02m, a 22.6% reduction from the previous year. This performance reflects a challenging economic environment, including lower consumer spending, a shrinking core customer base due to emigration, and escalating costs, exacerbated by legal costs of $221,688 related to shareholder opposition to capital return.

Despite the downturn, BurgerFuel continues strategic investments, particularly in its proprietary online ordering platform, which generated approximately $500,000 in revenue in FY25. The company is developing Version 2 of this app, with plans to potentially offer the platform to third-party vendors for additional revenue streams. Franchise operations remain a core focus, with 61 BurgerFuel restaurants in New Zealand and 3 in the Middle East as of March 31, 2025. The franchised Shake Out Hamilton East store closed, reducing physical Shake Out locations to 3, but the brand expanded its virtual delivery-only kitchens to 21, operating from existing BurgerFuel sites.

At the annual shareholders meeting on September 25, 2025, shareholders re-elected Tyrone Foley as a director and authorized the board to fix the auditor’s remuneration for the ensuing year. Both resolutions passed with overwhelming support, reflecting confidence in the company's governance amidst efforts to manage costs and strengthen the brand through operational excellence and sustainable practices, including the first fully electric BurgerFuel store in Royal Oak.
