Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) granted interim relief in DoT penalty dispute

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) announced on December 26, 2025, that the High Court of Bombay granted interim relief in a material litigation regarding penalty demand notices from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The company had challenged DoT's authority to issue penalty demand notices totaling ₹268.84 Cr for alleged non-compliance with subscriber verification guidelines, asserting that the DoT circulars were contrary to Section 20A of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

On December 19, 2025, TTML filed applications seeking an amendment to a current petition and interim protection against demand notes dated June 17, 2025, and December 5, 2025, amounting to approximately ₹8.08 Cr. The High Court, via orders uploaded on December 26, 2025, allowed the amendment application and stayed these demands.

The expected financial implication of the current order, if any, is approximately ₹8.08 Cr, which is now stayed.
