Coal India appoints B. Sairam as new chief executive

The board of Coal India Limited (CIL), in a meeting held on December 26, 2025, approved the appointment of B. Sairam as the chief executive officer (CEO) of CIL. Sairam currently serves as the chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of the company. This appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge or until his superannuation, whichever is earlier.

Sairam brings over three decades of experience in the coal sector, having previously served as CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CIL. His extensive background includes mine operations, project planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. He holds a graduate degree in mining engineering from NIT Raipur and an MBA in energy management.

Prior to his role at NCL, Sairam was director (technical) at Central Coalfields Limited, where he played a crucial role in developing coal logistics and various projects. His expertise in community trust-building and regulatory clearances is expected to greatly benefit CIL.
