L&T secures major BPCL contract for India's largest polyethylene unit

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced today, December 23, 2025, that its Hydrocarbon Onshore business vertical has secured a "Major*" order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). The contract involves the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene / High-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE / HDPE) Swing Unit at Bina, Madhya Pradesh. This unit will comprise two trains, each with a capacity of 575 KTPA, and will be executed on a Lump Sum Turnkey basis.

The project is a key component of BPCL’s Bina Petrochemicals & Refinery Expansion Project, which aims to increase refinery capacity from 7.8 MMTPA to approximately 11 MMTPA. This strategic initiative aligns with the Indian government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision, supporting domestic manufacturing and self-sufficiency in polymer production. The order, valued between INR 5,000 to 10,000 Cr, according to L&T's project classification, underscores the company's capabilities in the downstream hydrocarbon EPC space.

Subramanian Sarma, deputy managing director & president - L&T, highlighted that this order will bolster L&T's balance sheet and reinforce its credentials in the hydrocarbon EPC sector. E S Sathyanarayanan, senior vice president & IC head of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore, affirmed the company's commitment to delivering the project with high standards of HSE and quality.
