UltraTech Cement to contest ₹3.9bn GST demand order

UltraTech Cement Limited has received an Order in Original from the joint commissioner, Central Goods and Services Tax & Central Excise, Patna, upholding a tax liability of ₹3,90,95,58,194. This amount includes applicable interest on tax demand, an additional interest of ₹27,68,289, and a penalty of ₹3,90,95,58,194. The order, received on December 19, 2025, addresses alleged short payment of GST and improper utilization of Input Tax Credit during the financial years 2018-19 to 2022-23.

The company plans to review the order, explore all legal options, and contest the demand. UltraTech Cement asserts that it does not expect the order to have any operational or financial impact on the company.
