Titagarh rolls out first driverless metro for Ahmedabad

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. officially rolled out its first driverless metro trainset for Ahmedabad's Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) on December 20, 2025, from its Uttarpara facility in West Bengal. The event was attended by Gujarat chief minister, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, who highlighted the program's role in Gujarat's urban mobility agenda and praised Titagarh's contribution to "make in India" and "atmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives.

The trainset features over 70-75% local content by value, showcasing India's growing manufacturing capabilities. These stainless steel car body trains are designed for lightweight, durability, and energy efficiency. They will serve the yellow line corridor from Narendra Modi stadium to Mahatma Mandir (23.8 km) and the violet line branch from GNLU to Pandit Deendayal Energy University and GIFT City (5.4 km), covering a total elevated network of 28.26 km with 22 stations.

Equipped with the latest train control and management system for driverless operations, the trainsets prioritize passenger comfort and safety. They include modern amenities and dedicated spaces for persons with reduced mobility, with interiors styled with a Garba-inspired theme celebrating Ahmedabad's cultural heritage.
