Reliance acquires majority stake in Tamil Nadu's Udhaiyam brand

Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited, has acquired a majority stake in Udhaiyams Agro Foods Private Limited. This joint venture brings Tamil Nadu's heritage nutrition brand, Udhaiyam, under RCPL's portfolio, bolstering its branded staples offerings. Udhaiyams' former owners will retain a minority stake in the company.

Udhaiyam, a brand with over three decades of legacy, operates in key staple and food product categories including rice, spices, snacks, and idli batter, supported by an extensive distribution network in Tamil Nadu. The acquisition aims to scale Udhaiyam into a national brand while offering consumers global-quality products at affordable prices.

S. Sudhakar and S. Dinakar, the erstwhile promoters, will continue with the company, leveraging their over 30 years of experience in the packaged pulses business to support Udhaiyam's next phase of growth. This move aligns with RCPL's mission to empower daily consumer life with accessible, high-quality products.
