Patel Engineering revives 144 MW Gongri hydropower project

Patel Engineering Ltd. announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for the restoration and development of the 144 MW Gongri Hydropower Project. This initiative, valued at Rs. 1,700 crores, is expected to be completed within four years and aims to harness the region's hydro potential, contributing to the state's economy and sustainable development.

The Gongri Hydroelectric Project, located in West Kameng District, had been previously terminated but is now being revived under the "Arunachal Pradesh Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Policy under Special Circumstances, 2025." This marks the first project to be restored under this new framework. Patel Engineering will manage the complete project lifecycle, from preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to designing, engineering, construction, and commissioning.

The project will operate on a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) basis for a 40-year lease period, after which ownership and operational control will revert to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Managing director Kavita Shirvaikar highlighted the company's commitment to renewable energy and the socio-economic benefits the project will bring to local communities.
