Religare subsidiary fined ₹1 crore by IRDAI for inspection violations

Care Health Insurance Limited (CHIL), a material subsidiary of Religare Enterprises Limited (REL), received an order on December 15, 2025, from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) imposing a penalty of ₹100,00,000. This penalty stems from violations observed during an IRDAI inspection conducted between August 30, 2021, and September 09, 2021.

The violations leading to the penalty include multiple breaches of IRDAI regulations concerning policyholders' interests, corporate governance guidelines, health services, and financial statement preparations. Specifically, CHIL was cited for non-compliance with aspects of Regulations-17(2) of the IRDAI (Protection of Policyholders' Interests) Regulations, 2017, and various clauses within IRDAI's Corporate Governance Guidelines, among others.

While some violations received warnings or advisories, several, including those related to third-party administrators and health services regulations, contributed to the financial penalty. The financials of CHIL are consolidated with REL, and the penalty amount, if required to be paid, is payable by CHIL.
