Fermenta Biotech to boost vitamin D3 and enzyme production

Fermenta Biotech's board has approved a capital investment of INR 110 crore for capacity expansion at its Dahej, Gujarat facility, to be phased across fiscal years 2026 and 2027. This investment targets the production of plant-based Vitamin D3, Vitamin D3 derivatives, and green chemistry enzymes.

The expansion includes establishing commercial-scale manufacturing for approximately 1 tonne per annum of plant-based Vitamin D3 and 50 kg per annum of Vitamin D3 derivatives, requiring an investment of around INR 60 crore. Additionally, the company will add approximately 75 KL of fermentation capacity for green chemistry enzymes, with an investment of about INR 50 crore. The financing will utilize a mix of internal accruals and debt.

This strategic move aims to capitalize on Fermenta’s recent process patent protection for plant-based Vitamin D3. It also seeks to meet anticipated increased demand for green chemistry enzymes, strengthening its position in sustainable biocatalysis and high-value nutritional ingredients.
