Bharti Airtel penalized for subscriber verification breaches

Bharti Airtel Limited announced on December 8, 2025, that it has received a notice from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Andhra Pradesh LSA, imposing a penalty of INR 6,99,000. This penalty is for alleged violations of subscriber verification norms, identified during a sample Customer Application Form (CAF) Audit conducted for July 2025.

According to the company's disclosure, the DoT's notice pertains to breaches of terms and conditions outlined in the License Agreement regarding customer verification. Bharti Airtel is required to ensure adequate verification of subscribers as per its licensing obligations.

The company has opted not to contest the penalty and will pay the levied amount. The maximum financial impact of this action is limited to the penalty imposed, as stated in the disclosure.
