Thirumalai subsidiary's Maleic Anhydride unit faces prolonged outage, revenue hit

Thirumalai Chemicals Limited announced on December 5, 2025, that its subsidiary, Optimistic Organic Sdn Bhd (OOSB), is experiencing a prolonged outage at its Maleic Anhydride unit. This delay stems from machinery failure that was expected to be rectified earlier. The Maleic Anhydride business contributed approximately INR 235 crore (9.6%) to the consolidated revenue for FY25 and INR 140 crore (4%) to the consolidated net worth at the end of FY25.

The company expects an annual reduction of INR 235 crore in consolidated revenue due to the outage, with an actual reduction of approximately INR 118 crore recorded in H1 FY26. The incident is not covered by insurance. While the Maleic Anhydride unit is affected, OOSB's derivatives plant continues to operate.

OOSB is actively engaged in efforts to restore normalcy, including expert consultations to determine the best course of action. This involves reviewing the situation, collecting relevant information, and evaluating potential solutions to mitigate the impact of the machinery failure.
