Akzo Nobel India receives revised GST appeal order, demand reduced

Akzo Nobel India today announced it has received an appeal order from the Odisha GST Department on December 1, 2025. This order revises the demand related to an input tax credit disallowance under Section 73 of the CGST/SGST Act, 2017, for the period 2020-21. The initial order, issued on March 3, 2025, had demanded INR 69,49,990, comprising INR 38,72,186 in tax, INR 26,90,585 in interest, and INR 3,87,219 in penalty.

The revised appeal order, issued on November 29, 2025, by the additional commissioner of state tax (appeals), now sets the total demand at INR 67,56,703. This includes INR 35,00,932 in tax, INR 29,05,678 in interest, and INR 3,50,093 in penalty.

Akzo Nobel India confirmed that this appeal order remains open for further submissions to the relevant authorities, and the company is in the process of responding within the stipulated timelines.
